Transfer of the painting

A fragment of the wall painting “Crucifixion” , painted by Michal Stachowicz, was discovered 2016 during the dismantling of the large painting “Assumption” by the same author that had been there since 1879. The discovered fragment covers the upper part of the “Crucifixion.” The way Christ is depicted is reminiscent of late Gothic crucifixes, especially the Slacker crucifix at St. Mary’s Church in Krakow. The uncovered part of the painting was transposed to the wall next door in 2017. It is an exact reproduction of the original, now covered by the altar painting.
