St. John the Baptist Chapel: Schindler’s epitaph
A modest epitaph memorializing Jan Schindler. He was a figure of great merit to Krakow (though also controversial because of his cooperation with the Austrians), and especially to the monastery of Bielany. He renovated the monastery’s well and guest house, named Schindler’s House in his memory, founded one of the chapels in the church and donated his book collection to the Camaldolese monks. While working in the senate of Cracow, he put the city’s finances in order, and took charge of, among other things, expanding the sanitation system, paving streets, renovating many buildings and initiating the construction of the DÄ™bnicki Bridge. After his death, he was buried at Krakow’s Bielany.
