Chapel of the Holy Family: altar painting 1
The altar painting in the Chapel of the Holy Family is a typical composition of sacred art known as Virgin and Child with Saint Anne. It depicts a group of three figures: baby Jesus, his mother Mary and St. Anne, his grandmother. The artist depicted the figures sitting on a richly decorated throne, while above their heads he placed a dove, the symbol of the Holy Spirit, in a cloud. Anna, dressed in a red cloak, holds a book in her hand, as if she was reading something to her grandson. Mary, on the other hand, passes a wine grape to her son as a foreshadowing of his martyrdom. A fragment of the landscape can be seen in the background.
