Crest of the Monte Corona congregation

The crest depicts three stylized mountain peaks with a cross rising from the highest of them banded with a crown.

It was created in the 16th century, when (in 1530) Justinian of Bergamo founded an erem for a newly established congregation . The establishment of the congregation was the result of an internal reform that had been accomplished only a few years earlier. The Badia di Monte Corona erem is situated on a mountain surrounded by lower hills as if they formed a crown. Hence the shape of the crest.

It is one of the two Camaldolese congregations in operation today. The congregation currently has nine hermitages around the world. Both Polish hermitages (besides Bielany there is another one, in Bieniszewo), belong to this congregation.
