House of contemplation

The house of contemplation is a place where lay men can learn about the life of the hermits and perhaps discover their  vocation.

Camaldolese retreat participants live the life of the hermitage. They get up together with the monks at three-thirty, pray with them and, like them, do simple chores. The rooms in the contemplation house also resemble Camaldolese hermitages with their furnishings. There is nothing superfluous here. A simple bed, a desk and a place for prayer.

Karol Wojtyła – the later Pope John Paul II – also conducted his retreats here.
